Monograph about the production of gold jewellery with open-work decoration, a technique known as opus interrasile, which dates from the 3rd to the 7th cent. AD. About 600 examples of open-work jewellery from museums and collections all over the world are examined. It includes a detailed technical examination of the pieces, an analysis of the decoration and its possible symbolism, their stylistic features, as well as their classification and dating. This is followed by a catalogue of the objects arranged by categories, in which details of their origin, dimensions and dating are provided as well as brief descriptions, bibliographical references, photographs and drawings.
