Claudius Ptolemy was the most important of the Greek geographers of antiquity and exerted a significant influence on later cartographers. His map should be of particular interest to Greek collectors, because it is the first printed cartographic depiction of the country, based on data and information contained in the “Geographical Narrative”. Furthermore, the abundance of various maps of Greece, related to “Geography”, has always created problems of identification.
The portable catalogue was designed with the aim of responding, as far as possible, to the needs not only of scholars and experienced collectors, but also of those who, having in their possession one or two “Ptolemaic” maps, wish to acquire more knowledge about them.
