The Origins of Sculpture. Archaeological Finds from the Old World and Lesbos 2.5 Million to 50,000 Years Before Present is published on the occasion of the presentation of an exhibition of the same title, organized by the University of Crete, the Benaki Museum, and the Region of Crete in cooperation with the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and presented at the Benaki Museum of Greek Culture, 27 September 2023 – 7 January 2024. The exhibition is based on the exhibition titled First Sculpture: Handaxe to Figure Stone, organized by the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, in 2018. The current volume includes the scholarly essays presented in First Sculpture: Handaxe to Figure Stone, published in 2018 by the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, chrome in addition to new scholarly contributions by Nena Galanidou.
