The book “The Urban Development of Athens”, the life’s work of the architect J. Travlos –first published in 1960– is the standard work on the topography of Athens from ancient times to the modern day. The urban development, architecture, and monuments of the city are presented in twelve chapters, corresponding with the major periods in Athenian history.  This book is still an indispensable handbook for those studying Athens; a rich source of information on the long history of the city, it is of great value to scholars and lovers of Athens alike.
